First Craft of Spring - Public knitting art project - Call for Artists!!

First Craft of Spring
Deadline: March 20th, 2009

Booze & Yarn and The Studio Collective have joined forces to create a widespread public art project.

Flowers born from icy winter grounds are the embodiment of renewal and hope, and in this year of change and new beginnings, I would like to invite you all to be a part of a hopeful, constructive public art project.

On the first day of spring (March 20th), the world will wake to find large, beautifully hand crafted Daffodils dotting our urban landscape. The goal is to inspire people to use grassroots, peaceful methods to bring about change.

Rules:
1. The only flower type to be used for this project is the Daffodil.

2. Daffodils can be knitted, crocheted, sewn, drawn, screened. Any artistic medium is accepted.

2. Each flower should have a tag with a positive message or quote. You can use any message you want. there will be suggested quotes and lines on the blog website if you need ideas. The tag should be easily visible to viewers

3. Each tag must say below the quote: "First Craft of Spring" www.boozeandyarn.com. The Homepage of Booze & Yarn will have a link to the First Craft of Spring project blog.

4. On March 20th, earlier in the day the better, find locations anywhere on your daily route, and "plant" your flowers.

5. Take a photograph of each flower you plant. Cell phone pictures are fine in a pinch. Email them to me to post, or post them to the blog yourself with a location, your name, and the medium. You can also include contact details to you, your artwork or your website.

Make as many flowers as you can, and plant them anywhere and everywhere.

Please pass this call for artists on to as many people in as many cities as possible.

I will post the pattern for this knitted daffodil tomorrow to be used by anyone that would like to.

I will also post a printable file for a tag you can use.

Hope you all can participate in this public art experiment!
